McClain receives offer he "was waiting for!"

A few weeks ago, Dave McClain of Central Bucks (PA) High School East made an unofficial trip to Louisville and left hoping he'd receive a scholarship offer the following week when U of L assistant Kevin Wolthausen was scheduled to visit.
Coach Wolthausen visited with the 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive lineman on Thursday and gave him the good news.
"It was a really good visit," said McClain. "I got an offer while he was here and that was the one I was waiting for."
One of the benefits of signing McClain is that he'd actually count against the 2004 recruiting class and would enroll in January, allowing him to participate in spring practice.
"We talked about my graduation date, because right now I'm scheduled to graduate on January 28th and Louisville starts on the 10th, so I talked with my counselors about moving my finals up to the third," explained the 3-star prospect. "If I go to Louisville I'd get there on the 9th and then start classes the next day."
With his size and agility, McClain is a rare breed for an offensive lineman and could likely see playing time as a true freshman and he realizes that enrolling early would benefit him greatly.
"There are just so many advantages of coming in early," McClain explained. "Coach told me that he needs help right away to create depth and that's what I'm hoping for. I just want to have a chance to compete."
After visiting a number of schools, McClain has started to focus on just five schools.
"I've been narrowing it down some," McClain said of his favorites. "Right now I'm focusing on Louisville, Marshall, Rutgers, Purdue and Tennessee."
He took his first official visit this past weekend to Purdue and will trip to Marshall this weekend.
"It was a good visit," said McClain of Purdue. "The coaches are great people, which is important. Their facilities weren't as nice as Louisville's, but the people there were great."
Due to the short period of time remaining before college courses begin following the Christmas break, McClain may or may not get a chance to make an official trip to Louisville. However, as he explains, he experienced quite a bit during his previous trip to the Cardinals football complex and Belknap Campus.
"I'm possibly coming on December 17th, but I've been talking to Rutgers about going there that weekend, so I may visit Louisville a few days later in the middle of the week," McClain said. "I feel like I saw the campus pretty good when I came there earlier. It felt like an official visit because I got to see the dorms, met with the academic director and attended a film session."
With Louisville climbing near the top of his schools, Bobby Petrino's recent statement left McClain impressed.
"That was huge that he did that," McClain said of the U of L head coach. "I'll be honest, I was worried, but kind of felt like he'd stay there. The opportunities are there. They are going to the Big East and without question will be one of the best teams in the nation and the chances of playing for a national championship there are remarkable."
